My experience with the Manassas Law Group was very favorable. I went to their offices because, I had a tenant that would not pay the rent for no reason other than just didn’t want to pay. I made an appointment with Attorney Kevin Fernandez at the firm to discuss my options. Once I met with Mr. Fernandez he was on top of my case ; he was well prepared on the specifics of what my concerns where and he was very confident that he would be able to help me with a favorable resolution. Mr. Fernandez was very responsive, attentive and compassionate dealing with me. The tenant was very adamant in trying to occupy my home for free and tried to drag the eviction process out but, Mr. Fernandez wasn’t having any of that! I was able to retain possession of my home and be awarded a financial judgement. Once the case was resolved Mr. Fernandez and the paralegal group stuck with me through the eviction process and, provided me with a follow up discussion letting me know all my options moving forward ; which was very informative and helpful. I got my money’s worth with the Manassas Law Group. Mr. Fernandez was on top of his game and I’m very confident that , if I need services again, I’m reaching out to Mr. Fernandez at the Manassas Law Group.

We paid Mr. Dick Boatwright of Manassas Law Group $200 for a 60-min. consultation. He gave us only 15 minutes of his time, during which he talked over us, cut us off, and dismissed us--not even hearing the extenuating circumstances for which we were specifically consulting him. He agreed to do further research on a question for $350 more. A paralegal then merely sent us a copy of a Virginia statute that we already had, but for which we had consulted Mr. Boatwright to explain within the scope of VA legal precedent. After paying $550, we had no answers to our specific questions (only 3 questions, which I clarified again in an email to Mr. Boatwright in hopes that he would fulfill the obligation of answering them). We will be filing a formal complaint with the VA State Bar, initiating a fee dispute with the State Bar, and filing a formal complaint with the VA Attorney General's Office. I would recommend anyone else with similar issues do the same.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
