Mark B. Williams & Associates, PLC
Warrenton Sexual Assault Lawyer
Overview
Following a successful career as a social worker, Mark began his law career as a solo practitioner, opening his first office in his home. Since that time, he has added Alyssa Phillips, a well-respected family law attorney, to the firm and has mentored several young attorneys who have now moved on to open their own successful law practices. Practicing throughout Northern Virginia and the Virginia Piedmont regions, in both state and federal courts, Mark has represented clients charged with everything from the simplest traffic violation to capital murder, including 30 homicide cases and 150 felony trials.
Mark is well known for his expertise in sex crime defense. He has represented clients in dozens of sexual assault cases and is valued by his peers as a consultant for sex crime defense and trial strategies. As a former investigator of child sexual abuse, he brings a unique perspective to the defense of these cases.
A newly formed collaboration with Walker Jones, PC now finds Mark working with peers who bring additional experience in criminal defense and prosecution, adding this element of expertise to the defense strategy for clients. This combination of viewpoints builds the best legal defense available to clients of the firm.
Mark has spent his career helping people through the most difficult times of their lives and in doing so has become a highly respected defense attorney. He considers each person, the facts of the case, what the defenses are, and works to assertively represent the interests of his client at every part of the process, sometimes negotiating a favorable plea deal or defending before a judge or jury. This focus on the interests of those he represents and his effort to obtain the best outcome has earned Mark the loyalty of his clients, many of whom continue to make referrals to him.
When Mark is not working, he spends time with family, works in his yard, reads and takes care of his goats and dogs.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
