Attorney Information

Overview

Tim Kelly has been practicing criminal defense in Kitsap County since 1990. Over the past thirty years, he has represented nearly 4000 individuals charged with crimes ranging in severity from Shoplifting, DUI, and Drug Possession to Child Molestation, Armed Robbery, Rape and Murder. In 2007, Tim successfully defended Brodie Walradt, a young man charged with Aggravated Murder where the State sought the Death Penalty.

After nearly twenty years of serving as a Public Defender, Tim opened his own criminal defense practice in 2012. He handles no more than ten cases at a time so he can give each client as much time and attention as needed, regardless of the severity of the charge. He is available at any time of the day or night and frequently meets with his clients on weekends or evenings. Tim explains legal matters in clear, concise language, never sugarcoats things and attempts to finish every meeting or phone conversation by asking if his client has any questions, any questions at all. His communication style is informal and he often emails or texts his clients daily to keep them informed. Some of Tim's former clients have jokingly commented that they hear too much from their lawyer.

Tim grew up in Everett and attended the University of Washington, earning a bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1987 and a Juris Doctorate from the School of Law in 1990. He came to Kitsap County shortly thereafter and has never left. He lives in Manchester with his wife and two young sons. In his free time, Tim coaches Little League, volunteers at Manchester Elementary and helps his wife and kids around the house and yard. Tim is also a licensed pilot and has flown small airplanes in and out of the Bremerton National Airport since 2006.

Mr. Kelly is an amazing attorney. I have never been involved in a criminal incident in my entire life, but recently found myself facing felony charges. Mr. Kelly was able to negotiate with the prosecutor assigned to my case and significantly reduce the charges against me. He's an honest attorney who has been a defense lawyer in the area for 15 years and has a respected repertoire with the Prosecutor's office. He knew the D.A. assigned to my case very well. Mr. Kelly is also very familiar with the Kitsap County court system and their internal workings. An attorney unfamiliar with Kitsap County and its politics, personalities, attorneys and judges, wouldn't be nearly as successful at navigating a deal. Everyone in the local area knows who Tim Kelly is. Every office I dealt with that asked who my lawyer was responded the same when I gave them Tim Kelly's name. "Tim! I know Tim!" Mr. Kelly is encouraging, and I didn't feel judged. He allowed me freedom to express my anxiety, and my anger towards the confusion and chaos surrounding my case. He's compassionate, and at your service. He works for YOU. Mr. Kelly was always available, and returned my emails the same day. He had appointment space for me and I never dealt with paralegals. He was very kind to both my young children when I was force to bring them with me to meetings. He had paper, pens, and a gentle demeanor to put them at ease while he updated me on my case. He kept me calm, and clearly explained the process I was going through, and what to expect with each court date. In summary, Mr. Kelly is an honest attorney and very well known and respected within the entire Kitsap County court system. He's compassionate, available around the clock, and he works for you. He puts your mind at ease and educates you as he he walks you through the entire process to, in my case, a pretrial diversion w/dismissal after 2 years! I highly recommend Tim Kelly as an attorney. I'll always be thankful for what he accomplished for me.

I have never met Tim. I don't like lawyers. Tim is the first to really earn my respect. His first email told me all I needed to know. HE IS THE BEST! Most reasonable lawyer I have ever seen. Did a PERFECT job for me with warp speed. Few emails a phone call card over the phone job done. Thank You Tim for all your hard work!

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
