I strongly recommend attorney Kelsey Morfitt to family and friends (men and women) for family law cases such divorce and child custody cases. I am the father of two children, so Kelsey played a great role on my divorce case and in winning to be sole custody of my children.

I would not recommend this attorney to anyone. She knowingly made a mistake in my son's case that led to a motion of contempt. Instead of acknowledging her mistake and doing the right thing, she filed a motion to withdraw. She gave him 10 days to continue as his attorney however, he no longer trusted her and found himself struggling to rectify the situation on his own and/or until he found a new attorney. I believe Kelsey Morfitt violated the attorney's Code of Conduct and Ethics. She did not protect the best interest of her client. Sadly, he or I absolutely do not recommend Kelsey Morfitt.

I do not recommend Kelsey Morfitt to anyone for a defense attorney. She wouldn’t listen 2 minutes before making assumptions and unfounded interjections, even vehemently accusing me of lying before I could tell her what actually happened! Ridiculous! How do you expect to represent a client when you don’t listen or believe anything they say? I’ve been falsely accused! That’s why I am looking for your help! But then you ignorantly judge me and side with my accuser?! Don't look to Kelsey to represent you—or the truth!

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
