Hired Attorney 2022-2024This woman is the absolute WORST! I had to file a grievance against her with the WA State BAR for money she has owed me for OVER A YEAR! She will dodge your calls, she will lie, she will do anything she can to get out of giving you your money. Her work is sloppy and she is a very unethical person. I know there are other people out there that she has done this to by doing a little research. I would encourage those people to also file a grievance to get her out of practice!

Hired Attorney 2022-2024This despicable, worthless traitor accepted my case after I told her that my problem was due to the corruption of another attorney who is allowed to play both sides of the same bench as a commissioner and who she used to work with in the same firm. However, she "failed" to mention that conflict of interest to me and after intentionally delaying my appeal for 2 years, she abandoned and ghosted me without telling me I had a reply due. She refused to respond to my requests for updates and I had to find out myself that a ruling was filed denying my appeal because of her negligence. All lawyers are liars and there is no such thing as an attorney with integrity and honor, but this one is on a different level. Even early on she would not return emails or calls and was her office was never open when I stopped by. She should be disbarred. DO NOT GIVE HER YOUR MONEY!

Hired Attorney 2022-2024DO NOT GIVE HER YOUR MONEY. Similar situation as others. Used Carlsen law office for a divorce and the communication was poor and inconsistent. I mistakenly re-engaged them when my ex did not comply with the separation agreement in final divorce orders. I got some email advice but no actions taken as agreed upon in a signed agreement and then was totally ghosted. No invoices were ever received and they took my retainer funds. Tried to get in contact for the better part of this year and no returns to voice mails and they'd respond to emails every few months with stock language saying like "we are busy in court" or "we will have an updated invoice to you this week" but I never saw anything. Recently, my emails were kicked back and I discovered that their website is gone and "has been suspended." I filed a grievance with the WA State Bar Association and have not heard back yet. It's really upsetting that a law office would take advantage of folks at all, let alone while they are going through a gut-wrenching divorce and grieving process. Steer clear! Please file a grievance if this also happened to you.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
