Attorney Information

Overview

Kaely is a litigation associate attorney at Smith Alling, and her practice focuses on representing individuals in family law disputes, as well as trusts and estate matters.

Navigating family law matters can be emotional and overwhelming for clients. Kaely tries to ease the process by caring about her clients and collaborating with them, ensuring they understand each step of their case and guiding them to achieve their desired outcome. When Kaely meets clients, she aims to get to know them individually and understand their family and life dynamics to thoughtfully consult them.

Kaely attended Gonzaga University where she obtained her undergraduate degree.

She moved across the country to attend Villanova University Law School where she served as the vice chair of Villanova’s Moot Court Team, and graduated in 2023. Following law school, Kaely’s love for the Pacific Northwest brought her back to Washington, and she started her legal career as a prosecuting attorney in Pierce County. While working at the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, she gained experience in court proceedings, trials, litigation and mediation. During her time as a prosecuting attorney, she worked on a wide variety of cases including some Domestic Violence cases which now helps her persuasively represent clients in petitions or defense for Domestic Violence Protection Orders and other family law hearings. In her spare time Kaely loves spending time with her family, traveling, spin classes, tennis, and skiing. Kaely also loves cheering for and watching Gonzaga basketball games.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
