Hired Law firm 2019-2020I hired Claery & Hammond to represent me in my high conflict child custody case. Christopher McDonough represented me I use that term loosely. He never familiarized himself with my case, he was my attorney for a year. Mr. McDonough lost my case to my ex-husband who represented himself. He does not have the knowledge on how to effectively represent his client against someone who has no education in Family Court law. I was grossly overbilled for services that were never performed and work never done. Claery & Hammond's Law Firm did not care about my case or my child. Their website is not a representation of what their law firm actually is about. Find a different law firm.

Hired Law firm 2019I found him to be sadistic in his "representation." I say this because he has to know how he is botching up cases and then so careless that it is a challenge to see how open he is about this while the client is in disbelief that he is doing what he is doing. The billing could show his motive for the flagrant mistakes as the corrections involving yet more mistakes are charges. There is absolutely no care to the outcome of the case, your wellbeing, work product.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
