Overview

Federal employees enjoy a fair number of protections, but they also face a uniquely complex employment law landscape. When a claim of discrimination, harassment, employer retaliation or wrongful termination arises, plaintiffs often struggle to find an employment lawyer who knows how to handle the volume of regulations, systems and forums involved in federal employment law.

At Southworth PC, our employment lawyers work with federal employees specifically to protect their rights, defend against disciplinary actions and represent them in complaints before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB). We have taken on Fortune 500 companies and other large entities with a high volume of legal and financial resources. We offer an affordable, but effective option for workers who need the substantive experience and skill necessary to fight back.

Our firm offers nearly 20 years of combined experience in this challenging area of law. We are uniquely qualified to handle federal employment law issues on behalf of plaintiffs because we have experience on the other side. Attorney Shaun Southworth, our firm's founder, worked for two national law firms that handled employment law defense. This experience informs how we approach issues for our clients because we know how opponents operate.

We take pride in our honest and candid approach with clients. We strive for transparency and personal service, which is exemplified in how our firm has embraced technology to keep our clients informed. We are almost a paperless firm, and it helps us stay in communication with our clients through every stage of the legal process.

From offices in the Atlanta metro area, we handle cases from coast to coast and worldwide. Contact us online to set up a consultation or call 888-899-7284 for more information. We welcome your call.

-THE STAR TIMES trillion! Shaun told me I had a win & I could also take settlement because Andrea (the judge) likes to settle. Took me 1 year to get my tax returns saved up ($5,000 Trust fund retainer fee paid in full to Shaun Southworth) & even ended up homeless for 6 months during the wait for Shaun to finish appealing my case. Got word last week after 2 years of asking what is status of settlement EEOC says I lost case! When speaking to Shaun he plays dumb saying, “ I don’t know what happened here but you clearly have a case & we have 3 options 1. let it go 2. write a demand letter to agency 3. $2500 more for court hearing!” I asked for the balance owed to me from trust fund retainer instead he says I have a $42.88 bill from 2021! When I did the first appealed myself, I the same exact results paying Shaun $5,000. DON’T DO IT! I filed my initial compliant in 2016 with EEOC & this is 7 yrs later nothing, just broke busted & disgusted! Time wasted as well. The 5 stars are paid people or family & friends! Just like the previous reviewer said he hires inexperienced lawyer such as Georgia she was clueless! If there is ANY LAWYER OUT HERE WHO CAN TRULY HELP ME PLEASE FIND ME THROUGH MY PROFILE I HAVE EVERY DOCUMENT OF PROOF TO WIN MY CASE SHAUN & friends didn’t try! They just greased their palms! My name is Keshia Webb & my case is against defense commissary agency!!! I thought I better add my name so Shaun won’t come on here saying he has never had a client by the goggle name I use! And yes Georgia is awful! What was she even saying??? Negative negative negative negative & so on stars Look how when he get a negative review. He has his team do fake 5 star reviews notice they have only done 1 or 2 Google reviews. Be a fool if you want to & I am going to contact the Georgia Bar also

The absolute worst decision that I could've made hiring this guy. Took thousands of dollars from me, ruined my legal claims and then pulled off my case when I didn't have more money to give him. Did not get one tangible outcome from retaining this guy as my attorney.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
