Steinhagen, Crist, Wehrly & Kufus, PLLP — Attorney Daniel S. Kufus I want to take a moment to publicly express my deep gratitude and appreciation for Attorney Daniel S. Kufus, whose professionalism, patience, and humanity left a lasting impact on me during one of the most overwhelming periods of my life. When I first reached out to Mr. Kufus, I was emotionally flooded and admittedly overwhelmed. I came to him carrying an extraordinary amount of information, urgency, and distress all at once—far more than any attorney should reasonably be expected to absorb in an initial conversation. Despite this, he met me with calm, patience, and genuine respect. He listened carefully, asked thoughtful questions, and treated me with dignity at a time when I felt anything but steady. I spoke with many attorneys throughout this process. None provided the level of compassion, professionalism, and ethical clarity that Mr. Kufus demonstrated. Even when circumstances outside of his control prevented the representation from moving forward, he remained transparent, principled, and respectful at every step. At no point did I feel dismissed, judged, or taken advantage of. What stood out most was his integrity and humanity. Mr. Kufus made it clear—both in word and in action—that honesty, ethics, and respect matter. His reassurance, clarity, and kindness were not small things; they gave me hope at a time when I felt profoundly discouraged. In ways he may not realize, his professionalism and encouragement gave me the strength to keep moving forward—even as I was ultimately forced to proceed pro se under extremely difficult circumstances. Although Mr. Kufus was unable to see the matter through to completion, through absolutely no fault of his own, his impact on my confidence and resolve has stayed with me. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone seeking an attorney who leads with integrity, compassion, and respect for the human beings behind the legal issues. Thank you, Mr. Kufus, for your professionalism, your ethics, and for helping me find the strength to continue when it felt nearly impossible. — Christina Porter-Evers

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
