Kathy J. Mauk was born on October 23, 1969 in Altoona, Pennsylvania. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Political Science from Juniata College, Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, in 1991 and her Juris Doctor from The Dickinson School of Law in 1994. From 2012 until 2018, Attorney Mauk managed Evey Black's Louis S. Walton law office, which exclusively handled workers' compensation cases, until Evey Black decided to bring the practice back in-house.
