Verified ClientHired Law firm 2022-2025Daniel Taylor and might I add his paralegal Robin Lewis represented me in a high profile murder case. I am so thankful Daniel and Robin took my case. I knew I wasn’t guilty of this horrible crime and my family and I had been suffering for over a decade. At trial I was found not guilty of the one and only offense on the indictment of premeditated first degree murder. I was not released after this verdict and held in jail for 18 days and Dyer County Sheriff came and re arrested me with a new indictment of manslaughter and aggravated assault even though double jeopardy attached and statute of limitations had expired. Daniel and Robin knew this was wrong and fought hard filing appeals for my release and freedom. It took another 9 months of hard battle before the judge agreed with the law of our land to give me my freedom back and dismiss the case. I owe my life to God, my freedom to Daniel and Robin. Daniel and Robin would work day, night and even weekends on my case. Robin has become a close friend to my family and daughters. She was there when they needed her. She was there when they were sad and lonely missing their dad. I cannot say enough good this about Mr. Daniel Taylor and Mrs. Robin Lewis. A special thanks goes out to their families for putting up with me calling and asking about my case also their families even pitching in working on my case. Thanks again Daniel and Robin, David Swift

Verified ClientHired Law firm 2021-2022Thank you both for all your help and knowledge!!! I feel like the day I met you, Nancy, was such a blessing in my life… It has been reassuring to have support in knowing that I am doing everything I can to take care of my mom and protect her finances. God has put the best people in my life to help with this journey of caregiving… Of which I consider the two of you top on my list. Although, in the beginning I came to you just for information and to protect my mom‘s assets it went beyond that. I have always felt like I wasn’t alone and decisions that I was making ….because all the legal stuff is daunting when all you really want is for your loved one to be happy and feel loved. It has been so nice to know that all I have to do is make a phone call and if there’s something I’ve been concerned about when it comes to legal things I could just phone you. Caring for an elderly parent is not for sissies. It has been worth every penny to have your expertise. It has given me a peace of mind as the sole caretaker of my mom and that is invaluable. Curtis, thank you for answering all my questions in the last few months and getting back to me so promptly. I slept last night for the first time in three months!

Verified ClientHired Law firm 2018-2021Charles Barnett and his staff do an excellent job of keeping you informed of the status of your case. They worked tirelessly on my case for over two years. They didn't pressure me to settle at any time. They submitted hundreds of documents in support of the case. I felt Charles always had my best interest at heart.

Firm Information
Overview
Spragins, Barnett & Cobb is one of the oldest law firms in Jackson, dedicated to serving our clients so that they can achieve their objectives. The Firm represents many of Jackson's most creative businesspeople and is a dominant force in the region's legal community.
The roots of the firm date from 1897, when R. F. Spragins commenced the practice of law in Jackson, Tennessee. After his death in 1923, his son, R. Hearn Spragins commenced practicing law in 1926 and T. L. Spragins, another son, joined that practice in 1929. Sidney W. Spragins began practicing with his father, R. Hearn Spragins in 1956. In 1975 Sidney W. Spragins and Franklin Murchison combined their practices and Mr. Murchison's father, Carmack Murchison became 'Of Counsel'. In 1994, the Firm merged with Butler and Rheney, combining the two practices. Over the years, the firm has been home to attorneys who have gone on to become Circuit Judges (T. L. Spragins and Franklin Murchison), Bankruptcy Court Trustee (William L. Guy), City Attorney (Sidney W. Spragins and Lewis L. Cobb), Mayor of the City of Jackson (Charles H. Farmer), and Chancery Court Judge (James F. Butler).
Spragins, Barnett & Cobb has a diverse client base and professional talent. Lewis L. Cobb currently serves as the City Attorney for the City of Jackson and the Town of Medina. Charles H. Barnett, III is General Counsel for the Health, Education and Housing Facilities Board of the City of Jackson.
Dedicated to growth and change, Spragins, Barnett & Cobb acquired and moved to our current location in 1997. We consistently meet our clients’ needs by increasing efficiency through technology and keeping pace with the trends and changes in today's legal and business climate.
Currently Spragins, Barnett & Cobb has fourteen (14) highly skilled attorneys and a highly competent team of paralegals and support staff. Our Summer Associate Program is one of the most important elements of Spragins, Barnett & Cobb hiring efforts. We actively recruit second- and third-year law students from area Colleges of Law. The Program is designed to provide the law student with a realistic view of how a law firm operates and how to practice law. Each summer associate is assigned a mentor who is a member of the Firm. The Firm also hosts social events to provide additional interaction with the associates and their families. The relationship benefits the associate and allows the Firm to evaluate the associate as a possible hire. Many of the summer associates have been offered employment after graduation.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
