Hired Law firm 2026I would strongly advise anyone considering Mary Allgier as their divorce attorney to think twice. My experience was extremely disappointing. I hired Mary expecting an attorney who would be prepared, proactive, responsive, and willing to fight for my interests. Instead, I repeatedly felt like I had to chase my own attorney for answers, updates, and action. Communication was one of the biggest problems. There were extended periods where my questions and concerns went unanswered or received little attention. I provided detailed information and raised important issues regarding my divorce, yet I often felt that I had to repeatedly follow up to get a response. I was also extremely disappointed with the level of preparation and involvement I experienced. There were important developments in my case where I expected my attorney to be actively advocating for me, but instead I felt I was doing much of the work myself. I did not feel adequately prepared or represented, and I frequently questioned whether my concerns were actually being addressed. Most importantly, I never felt Mary was willing to fight for me. I understand that an attorney cannot guarantee a particular result, but I expected my attorney to aggressively advocate for my position, challenge things when necessary, and make me feel like someone was actually in my corner. I did not get that feeling. At several points, the lack of communication and follow-through left me feeling like my case was not receiving the attention it deserved. For something as serious and consequential as a divorce involving children, custody, finances, and property, that is unacceptable to me. Ultimately, I lost confidence and trust in the representation I was receiving and decided to seek another opinion.

Hired Law firm 2025Mrs. Paula services for my special case was far above what I had expected! When I say no worries and I needed to do was give information when needed.. she took care of the rest. Didn’t make me ever feel I was a bother, listened to my concerns and was ready when court time came. I’m grateful to have found someone like her and her staff! I felt so empowered having her!!

Hired Law firm 2023Paula Schaefer is an outstanding family law attorney. Not only is her technical knowledge top-notch, she has the demeanor and temperament needed to be an outstanding family law attorney. I got married in 2023 and two weeks before my wedding my wife and I decided to get a prenup (2nd marriage for us both). We were under the gun to get it completed prior to the wedding. Paula worked with us, fit us into her schedule and was amazing to work with. If you need a family law attorney in Indiana, you cannot do any better than Paula Schaefer, her attorneys, and staff.

Hired Law firm 2022-2023had a positive experience with Ruppert & Schaefer from the very beginning. The firm handled my initial phone call with more compassion and helpfulness than other law firms I called. Lauren is an amazing lawyer! I highly recommend her for your family law/divorce needs. She is extremely knowledgeable, compassionate, direct, and worked at my speed. I have nothing but good things to say about Lauren and her team. I am so thankful that I found them and hired them.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
