Dear Client, we are very surprised and disappointed to read your recent comments regarding our billing practices, as they are inconsistent with the documented history of our representation and our communications throughout the matter. Our office takes pride in providing high-quality legal work and attentive client service. Throughout your case, we billed you on a monthly basis, and all applicable hourly rates were clearly disclosed in the retainer agreements that you reviewed and signed. You received detailed invoices each month and made payments over the course of the representation. In fact, you claimed several times that you have "lost" the invoices that we emailed you on a monthly basis, so we even went through the trouble of having to re-send all invoices to you on multiple occasions. As reflected in our records, several of your payments were made excessively late. Nevertheless, as a professional courtesy and in an effort to support you during the case, our office voluntarily reduced our billing rates and extended discounts totaling several thousand dollars beyond those reductions. These arrangements were not required under the retainer agreements and were provided in good faith. Most importantly, at the conclusion of the matter, the case was settled for the exact amount you expressly authorized. As you know, the facts surrounding the settlement are well documented in the Court records. All work performed, billing entries, discounts, payments, and settlement authorizations are fully documented and have been provided to you. Despite the conclusion of the case on the terms you desired, a significant outstanding balance remained, which was not paid even after the matter had ended. In light of these facts, your recent comments and reviews are surprising and do not accurately reflect the billing history, the accommodations extended to you, or the outcome you approved. We are happy to discuss further if there is anything in particular that you were dissatisfied with.
