Firm Information

Overview

Coast Law Group LLP was founded on the principle that the business and environmental communities deserve attorneys who are aggressive and professional, while also committed to values of integrity and justice. At Coast Law Group, we gauge our success both by the service we provide our clients and the positive impact we have on our community.

In early 2003, sole practitioners Marco Gonzalez, Gary Sirota, and Rory Wicks decided it was time to merge their collective knowledge and create a firm that could build on each of their reputations for providing sophisticated and reliable legal service to a broad range of clients. With Ross Campbell and Chris Polychron as associate attorneys, Coast Law Group was launched in Encinitas, California in March, 2004.

A string of early successes both inside and out of the courtroom catapulted Coast Law Group to the forefront of Southern California firms emphasizing environmental preservation and public interest matters. Profiled in newspapers and other national media shortly after establishment of the firm, CLG received further national recognition in November, 2004 as the attorneys involved in a high-profile legal battle surrounding a contested write-in bid for Mayor of San Diego.

In 2006, the firm added Partners David Peck and Seyamack Kouretchian (merging with Kouretchian Law Group), thereby significantly expanding its business and litigation departments and adding new competencies in intellectual property and personal injury. Subsequently, CLG's reputation as one of Southern California's fastest growing and most dynamic and respected law firms has not gone unnoticed. Coast Law Group now regularly represents the interests of clients from around the world on issues of great importance to the environmental, business, and technology communities.

In July of 2009, Coast Law Group opened the doors on its new facility strategically located on South Coast Highway 101 in downtown Encinitas. The short walk to the surf at Swami's, along with the vibrant downtown surroundings and access to mass transit perfectly complement the spirit and vision of the firm. With a cadre of incredibly talented attorneys and support staff, CLG's reputation for first-rate and personable legal representation continues to grow.

    Hired Law firm 2018-2026
In 2018, Coast Law Group stood up to protect the Los Cerritos Wetlands and our local community when a project that tied a so-called restoration to expanded oil drilling was embraced by the City of Long Beach, the CA Coastal Commission, and most local environmental groups. With their help we formed Puvunga Wetlands Protectors and sued the CA Coastal Commission for approving new oil drilling operations that would drill under the wetlands to expand output to 25,000 barrels (a 5000% increase) and release 70,000 tons of methane annually. While we did not win the lawsuit, it contributed to the project plans being drastically scaled back, and, 71/2 years later, new wells have yet to be drilled. In 2021, Coast Law Group and the non-profit Coastal Environmental Rights Foundation were first to bring attention to the pollution of Alamitos Bay in Long Beach caused by the annual Big Bang on the Bay Fireworks Shows, suing the promoters for violating the Clean Water Act. Their efforts led to a 2023 decision by the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board to declare fireworks to be a pollutant that must be strictly regulated under the Clean Water Act. Puvunga Wetlands Protectors and Sierra Club’s Los Cerritos Wetlands Task Force joined the effort to end this show due to its disastrous impacts on a coastal bird rookery in the Alamitos Bay Marina. This year, the Coastal Commission refused to overturn their 2025 decision, banning fireworks as part of this event, in spite of tremendous pressure to do so. Although not all victories are won in a courtroom, the law can be a powerful tool for justice. We are especially grateful for the expertise of Attorney Liva Borak Beaudin, who has provided both legal counsel and practical advice. Coast Law Group can be counted on to represent and protect you, your community, and our shared coast. Anna Christensen, Puvunga Wetlands Protectors

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
