Sher Garner Cahill Richter Klein McAlister & Hilbert, L.L.C. The Sher Garner law firm was founded on January 20, 1999 and consists of a group of more than forty attorneys practicing as one team in a wide variety of business and litigation disciplines. Our practice spans multiple jurisdictions. We provide our clients with sophisticated legal services common to a large firm practice, but with responsiveness, personal attention and sensible staffing. We adhere to the highest ethical standards. We consistently work toward the betterment of our community. We are proud of our commitment to diversity (over one third of our lawyers are women and minorities.) We all share a common dedication to these principles, and to that end, we stay actively involved in professional activities as well as civic, charitable, political and educational endeavors. And, we are result oriented!

Our transactional attorneys have extensive experience in real estate and business related matters, including leases, acquisitions, commercial and maritime finance, construction and land development, subdivision and zoning, taxation, creditors' rights, corporate and general business advice, intellectual property, governmental relations and more.

Our litigation attorneys have expertise in the practices of complex commercial litigation, mass torts, professional liability insurance (engineering, insurance, medical and other professions), maritime related matters, creditors' rights and foreclosures, energy and environmental law, toxic torts, subrogation and recovery for marine and non-marine insurers, products and premises liability and more.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
